Program description
Child support workers from Tanderra Refugee saw the need for the programme through their day-to-day work at the refuge; the number of children aged 8-12 yrs that are being suspended from school and are displaying severe behavioural problems; and there are limited services available for these children.
The 426 Club is a support group for children aged between 8-12 yrs who have experienced domestic violence and are displaying behavioural problems at home, school or in the community. By running the 426 Club, we hope to prevent the cycle of violence in a safe and fun alternative way.
Aims of the Program:
- For children to learn they are not alone in experiencing family violence.
- To encourage children to talk about their feelings and keeping safe.
- To identify and develop protective behaviour strategies.
- To develop children’s self-esteem and self image.
- To discuss conflict resolution and alternatives to violence.
- For children to have within a small group setting.
