Demographic Profiles
This profile provides demographic information about children, families and the general population in Australia. Within the National Evaluation of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy, this information will be used as a national baseline comparison to help identify changing demographic trends in Communities for Children sites.
Workers in Communities for Children areas may find it useful to consider trends affecting children and families nationally, compared to those affecting their community.

Statistics specific to families and communities
Family composition and structure is in a constant state of change. Family statistics measure aspects of this change and are important social indicators. They provide insight into the patterns of marriage, partnering, family formation and separation as well as parental care, visiting arrangements and child support. This page acts as a guide to various statistical collections and publications relating to the family and to communities. It also provides links to ABS Contacts who can provide assistance in obtaining data and answer general queries.
Australian Social Trends 2008 is the 15th edition of an annual series that presents information on contemporary social issues and areas of public policy concern. Australian Social Trends describes aspects of Australian society, and how these are changing over time.
