Proposal requirements
The core requirement for a practice to be considered promising is demonstrated effectiveness. Supporting evidence may take the form of external evaluation, an internal evaluation, letters of support from key stakeholders (such as the local school principal, local business leaders, etc.) or letters of commendation (for instance from other people who work with the participants who have noticed a change, etc.). The National Evaluation Consortium (comprising representatives from the Social Policy Research Centre and the Australian Institute of Family Studies) anticipates that a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies will be used in the practice evaluations. These methods may include:
- focus groups;
- interviews;
- stakeholder questionnaires;
- independent peer review;
- linkage to research literature;
- review of administrative data;
- internal evaluation; and
- reflections on practice and ongoing improvement.
Promising practices may also have been developed from the existing evidence base of what works, and be able to demonstrate “innovation”, “replicability”, “sustainability”, and a “contribution to the existing evidence base”.
PPP proposals can be completed by staff working on the project/program or by local evaluators.
A final series of teleconferences were conducted to assist PPP proposals. This was an opportunity for project staff and evaluators to discuss proposal requirements with the CAFCA team. In addition, a number of useful resources, including some easy-to-use evaluation guides, can be found on the CAFCA website. Also refer to Frequently Asked Questions [PDF 160K].
All proposals were reviewed by an independent peer review panel. With the assistance of the project contact person, successful submissions are developed into Promising Practice Profiles. Projects approve all Promising Practice Profiles before they are presented on the CAFCA website.
Please feel free to contact the CAFCA team for assistance with understanding the PPP requirements, or for help locating research material.
