The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children
Growing Up in Australia is delighted to announce the return of the Life Series, Life at 5. The two-part documentary is produced by Heiress Films and was screened on 15 and 22 February 2011 on ABC1. Visit the Life Series website for more information.
The series follows 11 children and their families through their ordinary routines and milestones, and looks at how things like their parents' relationships, finances, work, health, and education impact on their lives.
We were very pleased to have so many families take part in Wave 4 of the study. Our interviewers have provided some great feedback, saying that the study families really enjoy taking part in the study. Families have particularly liked the new interviewing methods where parents and children had the opportunity to answer some of the questions using a laptop computer. We would like to thank all study families and teachers for their significant contribution to this important national study.
Developing questions for the Wave 5 interview is almost complete after commencing at the beginning of 2010. We've taken on board the feedback and suggestions from parents and children that participated in a series of focus discussion groups in September 2010. The purpose of these was to gain information that would help us make decisions about the appropriateness of some of the proposed new questions and give us ideas about how to improve the way information from families and children is collected. The first phase of Wave 5 interviews will commence in mid 2011.
