Connections between antisocial behaviour and involvement in victimisation incidents

In addition to being responsible for more offences than other age groups, young people are most likely to experience victimization. Richardson, Smart & Dussuyer (2004) employed self-report data from the Australian Temperament Project to examine the victimisation experiences of young adults aged 19-20 years. Two issues are addressed: the connections between victimisation and antisocial behaviour; and the lifestyle and personal attributes that are associated with victimisation. It was found that approximately one-third of participants had been victimized in the past year. Antisocial participants were much more likely to have experienced all types of victimization measured, particularly violent interpersonal victimization.
