Australian Family & Society Abstracts / Family & Society Plus

One aspect of the information work of the Institute is the use of electronic means to disseminate the research and information collected and maintained by the Institute's Research Library. The Institute's bibliographic database, Australian Family & Society Abstracts was first produced in 1984. Family & Society Plus, an enhanced version of the database with a full text focus was launched in 2004.

Family Thesaurus

Family Thesaurus is a list of subject terms developed for indexing and retrieving information in the Australian Family & Society Abstracts database. Terms included in the thesaurus reflect the database's multidisciplinary approach to factors affecting life in Australian society and are drawn directly from the literature being indexed.

The Thesaurus can be used to index documents, whether print or electronic and to organise reading lists and bibliographies. Thesaurus terms are also used to index resources in the AIFS Library catalogue.

Australian Family & Society Abstracts and Family & Society Plus are available via Informit Online the Australasian scholarly research information system.
