Family Thesaurus Online
Family Thesaurus is a list of subject terms in family studies, which is an interdisciplinary field of study drawing upon a number of social science disciplines including sociology, psychology, demography, education, family law, social work, and history.
Family Thesaurus was first developed in 1984 by the Australian Institute of Family Studies, for indexing and retrieving information in the Australian Family & Society Abstracts database. With each thesaurus edition, new, changed and updated terms have been introduced to reflect changing terminology in family studies literature. It now includes more than 1,900 terms as well as cross references and historical notes. This online version updates and replaces the former printed editions.
Family Thesaurus can be used to index documents in private collections and to organise reading lists and bibliographies. Thesaurus terms are also used to index resources in the AIFS Library catalogue.
