About the Learning Exchange
With the completion of the 2000-2004 Strategy, SFLEX's work has also come to an end. From July 2005 this website will no longer be updated but preserved as an archived site.
The Stronger Families Learning Exchange (SFLEX) project, funded under the Australian Government Department of Family and Community Services (FaCS) Stronger Families and Communities Strategy 2000-2004, aimed to contribute to the formation of an evidence base from which to inform policy, practice and research in strengthening families and communities. SFLEX comprised the Stronger Families Clearinghouse and an Action Research Training and Support Team.
Stronger Families Clearinghouse
The Stronger Families Clearinghouse provided clients and stakeholders with a variety of services including a help desk to provide access to resources on community development, early intervention and prevention and action research and this website which offered a range of resources and networking opportunities. The Clearinghouse also facilitated information exchange using regular printed and electronic bulletins.
Action Research Training and Support Team
FaCS recognised the action research evaluation required from projects funded under the Strategy may have been a new endeavour for some organisations. To help with this process, each Stronger Family Fund (SFF) project was assigned a member of the Training and Support Team to guide them through the process of designing and running an action research evaluation. Team members worked with projects to develop appropriate and workable action research evaluations, and supported them through cycles of data collection, analysis, reporting and planning for change.
From the above process national data on effective practice and early intervention strategies were analysed and findings were reported to the Department of Family and Community Services, in the Bulletin and on the Stronger Families Learning Exchange website.
