April 2003 Workshop for Stronger Families Fund Projects

From 1-3 April 2003, the SFLEX team ran an action research workshop for the SFF projects that we work with. The workshop followed action research principles, which explicitly underpinned the workshop program and were modelled by the SFLEX team.

In consultation with a planning group of projects and FaCS workers, we designed practice forums, small group discussions, panels, information sessions and excursions around the themes of where projects work, what they do, and who they work with. Projects participated as planners, co-facilitators, key speakers and reporters. The AIFS Clearinghouse visits and excursions were very popular, and the Shake Spears gave an energetic performance that was enjoyed by all.

The SFLEX team enjoyed the networking opportunities, as well as seeing the strengths of our team come to the fore. We also valued working closely with the Clearinghouse to showcase their talents and resources. It was a hectic, full-on and tiring three days but incredibly worthwhile. Projects reported that they enjoyed the workshop, particularly the opportunity to meet other project workers, AIFS staff and FaCS workers. People left with new contacts, new ideas, new skills and renewed enthusiasm.

The workshop provided us with many enjoyable experiences, challenges and learning opportunities, and we have many ideas about what worked and what didn't, what we will develop further, and what we will do next time....

Most of the formal and informal workshop materials developed for the workshop have been made available in the hope that they will be of use or interest. Workshop materials and resources
