Heather McKay

Dr Heather McKay is a Senior Research Fellow, Research and Evaluation in Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence. She heads the research program on Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence. Her research background has been in women’s health, maternal and child health, and reproductive decision making; since 2013 Heather has worked in the area of family, domestic and sexual violence. She has expertise in evaluation and experience in mixed methods research.

Prior to joining the Australian Institute of Family Studies Heather was a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne and part of the team at the Centre for Family Violence Prevention, The Royal Women’s Hospital. Her work has included a large audit of hospitals’ and health services’ responses to family and domestic violence, and evaluations of family violence education packages both at undergraduate and professional levels. She also led the work of writing the state guide for Victorian hospitals and health services concerning implementation of the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme and Child Information Sharing Scheme, and contributed to the Victorian health service workforce mapping guide for alignment with the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework concerning working with adults who use family violence.
